Frequently Asked Questions

The Art & The Coins

Where do you get your coins? Christina sources coins from all over the world, including estate sales, specialized numismatic collectors, and historical auctions. We look for coins with unique textures, interesting symbols, and significant historical stories.

Are the coins real? Yes. We use authentic vintage and antique currency. We do not use "reproduction" coins or plastic replicas. Because they are genuine, some coins may show slight "honest wear" from their time in circulation, which we believe adds to their character.

Is it legal to carve or alter coins? Yes. In Canada(and most other countries), it is legal to alter currency as long as the coins are no longer in circulation and there is no fraudulent intent to pass the altered coin off as a higher denomination or to debase the metal for its raw value. Turning them into art is a time-honored tradition!

Materials & Care

What kind of metal are the coins made of? Depending on the era and country of origin, our pieces may be made of:

  • 80%+ Silver or Sterling Silver (Common in older Canadian, US and European coins)

  • Copper, Bronze, or Brass

  • Cupro-Nickel

  • Please check the individual product description for the specific metal content of a piece.

Will the jewelry turn my skin green? Only coins with a high copper content (like older pennies or certain brass alloys) can sometimes react with skin oils to create a harmless green tint. If a piece has a high copper content, we usually seal it with a professional-grade jeweler's wax to prevent this.

How do I clean my jewelry? Because these are historical items, we recommend a gentle touch:

  • Use a soft polishing cloth specifically for jewelry.

  • Avoid harsh chemicals, ultrasonic cleaners, or dipping solutions, as these can strip the natural patina that makes vintage coins so beautiful.

Custom Orders

Can I send you a coin that has sentimental value to carve? Christina loves working on sentimental projects! Please use our Contact Page to tell us about the coin you have. Please note that not all coins are suitable for carving due to their metal composition or thickness, so we will need to evaluate it first.

Can you make a ring in a specific size? Since a coin has a set circumference, certain coins can only be made into certain size ranges. If you see a design you love but need it in a different size, let us know and we will try to find a similar coin that fits your needs.
